About Tor Project
The Tor Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) research-education nonprofit organization based in Winchester, Massachusetts, that primarily maintains software for the Tor anonymity network, allowing users to browse privately and circumvent censorship. It was founded by computer scientists Roger Dingledine, Nick Mathewson, and five others in 2002. The organization offers a free and open-source browser, Tor Browser, which provides multi-layered encryption and prevents tracking and surveillance.
